What are the verified 2026 limits?

2026 ordinary IRA contributions · taxable compensation can reduce the allowance

The allowance is combined across your traditional and Roth IRAs. Opening another account or purchasing another asset does not create an additional allowance. The amount generally cannot exceed taxable compensation for the year.

Do Roth eligibility and tax deductions need separate checks?

Yes. Roth IRA contribution eligibility depends on income and filing status. Traditional IRA deductibility can depend on income and workplace-plan coverage. Being permitted to contribute and being entitled to a deduction are separate questions.

How are transfers and rollovers different?

A qualifying transfer or rollover moves existing retirement assets under the applicable rules. It is separate from an ordinary annual contribution. Correct classification matters because an amount acceptable as rollover funding might not be permissible as a new annual deposit.

Use the transfer and rollover guide before sending money. A move into a Roth account can have tax consequences even if a representative describes the transaction as a rollover.

What happens when a dealer minimum exceeds the allowance?

The company may expect an account funded by eligible retirement transfers or rollovers. Its minimum does not authorize excess contributions. Ask the custodian which funding sources are acceptable, then compare the account’s costs against your objectives.

The minimum comparison keeps commercial thresholds separate from federal limits. Avoid combining the two into a single “required contribution” number.

What else should you know?

Does owning gold create a special IRA allowance?

No. Ordinary IRA contribution rules apply to a self-directed IRA holding eligible metal.

Can I contribute the full allowance to every IRA I own?

No. The ordinary allowance applies to combined traditional and Roth IRA contributions, subject to the relevant eligibility rules.
